| The original full length production of The Nutcracker in 1991 started with 50 dancers performing all of the parts. Through the years the Company has had the opportunity to perform with professional artists including Cornel Crabtree and Jenna Lavin of New York City Ballet and the Twyla Tharp Dance Company, Carolina Capdevila of Compania Nacional de Mexico and Stephanie Murrish & Daniil Giafullin of the Bolshoi Ballet and most recently Maia Wilkins and Michael Levine of the Joffrey Ballet Chicago. The Alamo City Dance Company's production of The Nutcracker now boasts approximately 100 dancers in 160 roles danced by San Antonians with the exception of the guest artists. The production this year features ballerina Roxanna Pena of the Alamo City Dance Company. An annually changing production of costumes, scenic elements and choreography this ballet is a wonderful ballet for the entire family. Don't miss this holiday classic of a young girl named Clara who is given a gift the Nutcracker and later that evening dreams of encounters with mice and soldiers in a battle. Her Nutcracker turns into a Prince to save the day but it is she who saves him instead. He thanks her with a fantastic journey through the Kingdom of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. |
